Setting up the keyboard for the shoot

Autocorrect off, word suggestions hidden – iPhone, Gboard and Samsung.

When typing in a scene, no suggestions or corrections may interfere: the suggestion bar is visible in the shot, and autocorrect changes the scripted text. Both are switched off in the phone’s keyboard settings – once per device, before the shoot.

iPhone

  1. Open Settings → General → Keyboard. Shortcut: touch and hold the globe or emoji icon on the keyboard → “Keyboard Settings”.

  2. Turn off “Auto-Correction”.

  3. Turn off “Predictive Text” – this hides the word suggestion bar above the keyboard. On iOS 18 and later, also turn off “Show Predictions Inline”.

  4. Turn off “Check Spelling” – otherwise iOS underlines words in red.

Android – Google keyboard (Gboard)

  1. Open the Gboard settings: tap the gear icon in the keyboard’s top bar – or go to Settings → System → Languages & input → On-screen keyboard → Gboard.

  2. Open “Text correction”.

  3. Turn off “Show suggestion strip” – the bar with word suggestions disappears completely.

  4. Turn off “Auto-correction”.

  5. Turn off “Spell check” so no words get marked in red.

Android – Samsung keyboard

  1. Open Settings → General management → Samsung Keyboard settings – or tap the gear icon in the keyboard toolbar.

  2. Turn off “Text suggestions” (called “Predictive text” on some versions) – this hides the suggestion bar.

  3. Turn off “Auto replace” – that is the autocorrect.

  4. Also turn off any remaining correction options under “Suggest text corrections” or “Smart typing”, if present.

Other keyboards

For any other keyboard app the switches sit in that app’s own settings – turn off “autocorrect”, “word suggestions” / “suggestion bar” and “spell check” there. Menu names vary slightly by manufacturer and version.
